our work

project
description

We partnered with Prospect New Orleans to fabricate Memoirs of the Lower Ninth Ward—a walk-through art structure designed by documentary photographers and artists Chandra McCormick and Keith Calhoun for the Artists of Public Memory Commission.

the
challenge

The artists envisioned a public sculpture that could serve as both a monument and a visual archive to the area often lovingly referred to as the Lower 9—one that would hold space for memory while standing strong outdoors for nearly eight months. Our challenge was to create a highly durable, light-filled installation that would safely showcase 36 photos in a structure evocative of home.

solution

description

Our team fabricated a steel-frame structure modeled after the iconic New Orleans shotgun house, with translucent acrylic panels on all four walls and both roof slopes. Each panel featured a single large-format photograph, glowing at night thanks to internal lighting that transformed the house into a beacon of shared memory. Visitors could walk inside the house, where the same images revealed themselves in the reverse—offering an intimate moment of reflection.
