Firestone at the "500"

our work

project
description

We helped bring Firestone’s long-standing partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to life in a temporary exhibit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Designed by History Factory for Firestone Tires, Firestone at the “500” invited visitors to explore more than a century of racing history through artifacts, iconic tires, and stories of legendary Indy 500 drivers. The experience unfolded across three chapters, connecting the energy of the track with the craftsmanship behind every tire.

project parameters

the
challenge

History Factory needed a fabrication partner to turn a layered exhibit design into a durable, engaging installation within a defined museum footprint. The exhibit had to fit a specific wall, connect visually with an existing museum case, and support a wide range of graphics, artifacts, tires, and interpretive elements. It also needed to feel as rhythmic and recognizable as Firestone’s own sidewall design.

solution

description

Downtown FabWorks fabricated a three-module aluminum frame to create 21 feet of seamless, freestanding exhibit space. Curved sidewall structures and custom Firestone-red tire stands brought the brand’s familiar forms to life while securely displaying real tires. Graphics, artifacts, signage, and labels guided visitors through each chapter, while the existing museum case extended the story with pieces from the Firestone Archives. Together, the installation honored the people, products, and race-day moments behind Firestone’s legacy at the “500.”
