Crafted from CNC-cut steel, the piano is lit interiorly by integrated neon lighting. We custom-machined and welded each component, including the giant sculptural screw that props up the piano lid. The vibrant turquoise and neon green body stands on four uniquely symbolic legs: a trumpet, a fork, a stylized “9” for the neighborhood, and “1852” for the Lower 9's year of incorporation. The book’s spine proudly bears the words “Still Here, Still Purposed” in bold, raised orange lettering, affirming the enduring presence and purpose of the community it honors.
