Some projects just keep on giving, and our custom-built step-and-repeat photo booth is one of them. Originally designed for a SiriusXM + Pandora Super Bowl LIX event, this French Quarter–inspired beauty has had a few makeovers since its debut, and it’s about to hit the road again. This time bound for Montgomery, Alabama, and branded for the 2025 Southeastern Museums Conference and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts!

At its core, this build captures the charm of New Orleans: a faux wrought-iron balcony façade, the glow of warm light spilling from behind shutters, and that distinct mix of elegance and revelry. But beyond the style, what really makes this piece special is its modular design. Built to travel, transform, and reinvent itself for new environments, it’s the kind of fabrication that proves sustainability and showmanship can coexist.

When we first conceived this build, we wanted it to feel immersive. It’s not just a backdrop, but a photo moment that transports people into a place. Over the years, we’ve learned that a well-built modular system is like a good jazz band: adaptable, responsive, and ready to riff. This newest version keeps the heart of the original build but with smarter engineering and updated details.
For SEMC, we took the opportunity to give the booth a full refresh. The lighting system got an upgrade: new fixtures, smoother dimming, and better control for both photo ops and ambient glow. We also expanded the footprint to make the booth fully ADA accessible, ensuring everyone can join the fun. Behind the scenes, our team disassembled each section of the structure and gave it a new coat of paint, bringing the finish back to life while keeping the bones intact.

The beauty of modularity is that it allows us to do exactly this: take something large, beautiful, and complex, then break it down, move it, and reimagine it without starting from scratch. Each piece is labeled, engineered for reassembly, and designed to fit together like a big, elegant puzzle. For fabricators, this kind of design thinking is gold – it saves materials, reduces waste, and lets creativity keep flowing long after the first event is over.

When it’s time for a new brand to step into the spotlight, the booth simply changes its outfit. The decorations, lighting colors, and graphic overlays can all be swapped out, instantly giving the structure a new personality while the underlying quality craftsmanship stays the same. From the high-energy buzz and beads of a Mardi Gras + Super Bowl weekend to the creative camaraderie of a museum conference, it’s the same booth…just with a different story to tell.

In a world where large-scale event builds often have a single-serving mentality behind them, this project stands out as an example of what sustainable custom fabrication can look like in action. Instead of sending lumber and hardware to the dumpster after one big weekend, we’ve kept this piece alive through thoughtful engineering and care. It’s a reminder that design longevity isn’t just practical. It’s creative!
As we pack the piece up for the trip to Montgomery, there’s a little pride in seeing how far this booth has come. It has traveled, evolved, and worn a few different looks, but the spirit remains the same: it’s a space built to delight, to draw people in, and to show what’s possible when fabrication meets imagination.
So if you’re heading to SEMC next week, keep an eye out for our balcony beauty in her latest look, and get ready to capture some memories! This piece is proof that with the right design, even a single photo booth can be future forward, have many journeys, and tell many stories.
